WE HAD SNOW! (Amongst other things...)

GREETINGS FROM SOUTH AFRICA!
TOBY here...
Good morning, everyone!
We had snow!
But before I tell you about the snow, let me start with some other news.
Autumn is just around the corner. We are being treated to the most amazing sunrises at the moment:
Isn't it beautiful?
As the sun rises, any clouds in the sky are immediately painted pink.   The biggest sign that Autumn is here, is the large "Plain Tree" in the nearby park.  Its leaves are turning a subtle orange:

The chill in the early morning air forces me to jump on Maxmom's bed, and wake her up. Sometimes it's so tempting to simply lie at her feet (on the bed, of course!), and sleep in:

If Maxmom takes too long in getting up to give me my breakfast, I get up to all sorts of shenanigans!:

Unfortunately she caught me in the act this time, so I couldn't finish off my job, BOL!

Besides getting up to all sorts of hooliganism
(afterall, I am a 'SWEET HOOLIGAN'),
I've been really busy in the past week. Maxmom is spending a lot of time training me - particularly for the role of SANDY in the production of ANNIE this year.

("Annie" asks "Sandy" to bow)

Every Monday evening I get to go and visit the cast members at the

It is an Afrikaans-speaking school which is presenting this beautiful musical. The children, whose home-language is Afrikaans, not only have to learn the English lines and songs, but also adopt an American accent...quite a challenge!

I am becoming more and more settled when I am amongst these lovely people. Last night Maxmom rewarded me by allowing some of the cast members to pat me.

I love those kids!
They are making me feel sooooo welcome!
Thank you to the ANNIE CAST for being so nice to me!

This Thursday, I am being assessed my my obedience school.  If I behave, I will graduate from Beginner's obedience and will be able to attend the classes for the
Bronze Level of Canine Good Citizen.
is the best!!!

---xXx---
Now for some amazing news...

WE HAD SNOW!!!
Yes, here in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Can you believe it?

Maxmom found it this past weekend at the
HOBBY-X EXHIBITION:

I am so happy she found some snow for me to show my overseas readers.
You aren't the only ones who are snowed in!
BOL! Brrrrr......! :)

Anyway, this 'snow' was part of a miniature trains' exhibit.
There were other beautiful ones too.  This one below made me think of my friend BOUNCING BERTIE in Scotland, but perhaps it was a setting from WILF's country - France?
Do you perhaps know this place?

I just love the castle in the background.
Check this next exhibit out:

Can any of you guys recognise these?

There were so many trains running around the tracks.
I am positive this next setting is in SOUTH AFRICA. It is so typical of some of the farms in the Cape. What do you guys think?

It certainly was an amazing exhibition.
The place was milling with people:

Unfortunately King Toffee, Aunt Tam and I had to stay at home.  We didn't get to see the snow!
( wish "The King" would wipe the grass off his mouth before having his photograph taken.)
I think our photos are better without Toffee, check this one out...

Aunt Tam and I make much better subjects!
Even my soft sheep looks better than the King.

At this time of the year, we love lying in the sun in our garden.

It's extremely relaxing but...

It makes me sleepy!

I think I'll go back to my ANNIE crate - to dream of:
SNOW!

.
To my friends in the Northern Hemisphere...

Keep warm!

I can imagine how difficult it will be for them to learn a different language & also speak in a certain accent. That's definitely going to be a big challenge for them. I actually have never heard of Afrikaans language before so I watched Charlize Theron speaking in this language (she's originally from SA) & it sounds very interesting.

Now if hoomie Melissa EVER caught one of us playing with the toilet paper, we would be in very big trouble. Melissa no like us being very naughty.

Nice job with the "bow". Betcha doing wonderful so far with your training.

Hi Toby,

WE HAD SNOW indeed! You nearly had me rewriting my whole paper on climate change there...

The train exhibition looks great fun. Gail is telling me that she once saw a similar exhibition in the Verkehrshaus museum in Luzern, Switzerland, and she's never see so many grown men running around with video cameras and exuding pure and uninhibited joy at any another museum ever! We do think the castle looks a bit like some in Aberdeenshire, but I would have to ask my friend Bunty's Mum for confirmation, as she has written several books about local history and architecture (you will have realised by now that this is not Gail's specialist subject).

We would love to hear the Afrikaans children trying to act in English with an American accent. Gail once went to see a local youth drama group's performance of 'Half a Sixpence' in Aberdeen. The children playing the main parts managed quite well with the cockney accents, but the chorus was pure Aberdonian.

Toby, I am looking forward to seeing that you did a better job on the paper roll next time. Meanwhile, enjoy being snuggled up in the bed, away from the snow!

Toodle pip!
Bertie.

hey Toby,

SNOW! You finally got snow! And how could you mom not let you go to enjoy the wonderful fluffy white stuff that is snow?! Maybe next time. The model train exhibit looked amazing!

Your pink morning clouds are awesome! Is that what inspired your creation of beauty in the bathroom? ;->

You look so handsome when you bow, Toby! Seems like you are getting to be a pro at it! The cast of "Annie" sound like such a wonderful group.

Good luck in your obedience final! King Toffee looks cute with his grass face!

Hi Toby,

Wow - that is quite a challenge for the students to use a different language, especially with an American accent! Does Maxmom speak Africkanns?

I see you are following in my paw steps. I did the Canine Good Citzen tests here, and have passed the gold test. The exercises are very similar to the ones at your school, but some are in a different order and we also do a "foundation" level test first. Mum thinks it is a great way for us dogs to learn doggie manners, and to have fun learning new skills with our humans.

Sending you woofs,
Riley

Oooooh - you so had us at the mention of snow. Wonder if they would notice if a Herd of Siberians were playing in that display?

Fall is my favorite time of year here in Pittsburgh, PA--I love all of the beautiful colors. I must admit however I don't enjoy the snow--maybe on a weekend when I don't have to drive in it but I could do without it. My girls--Sassy and Mabel love it. Nothing like a romp in the snow to them :) I love the train display. We have one here in Pittsburgh too. I have not visited it since I was a little girl but seeing your pictures makes me want to see it again. Toby looks like he is getting along great with all the "Annie" duties. What a good boy :)

Mimi
PS I have pictures of Sassy and the toilet paper too--I guess there is just something fun about unraveling that roll :)

What is it about toilet paper that fascinates dogs?
I like the pictures of Toby and the cast. He seems to feel so comfortable there.

I fell for it. I'm so gullible that I thought that you really did have snow!

None of our dogs has ever been a hooligan with toilet paper. I'm not letting them look at that photo :)
